Synopsis: Undead

Out of sight, out of their minds: It’s a school-trip splatter fest and completely not cool when the other kids in her class go all braindead on new girl Bobby.
The day of the ski trip, when the bus comes to a stop at a roadside restaurant, everyone gets off and heads in for lunch. Everyone, that is, except Bobby, the new girl, who stays behind with rebel-without-a-clue Smitty.
Then hours pass. Snow piles up. Sun goes down. Bobby and Smitty start to flirt. Start to stress. Till finally they see the other kids stumbling back.
But they’ve changed. And not in a good way. Straight up, they’re zombies. So the wheels on the bus better go round and round freakin’ fast, because that’s the only thing keeping Bobby and Smitty from becoming their classmates’ next meal. It’s kill or be killed in these hunger games, heads are gonna roll, and homework is most definitely gonna be late.

Combining the chill of THE SHINING, the thrill ride of SPEED, the humor of SHAUN OF THE DEAD, and the angst of THE BREAKFAST CLUB, Kirsty McKay’s UNDEAD is a bloody mad mash-up, a school-trip splatter-fest, a funny, gory, frighteningly good debut

My thoughts:

The characters are hilarious. This really brought me back to those high school days where there are cliques and everyone judges. I mean high school seemed to be harder than real life for the most part and Bobby knows all too well why. She’s hilarious though! Her inner thoughts are great. She’s very sarcastic at the best of times. Like, when her life is in danger. She’s intelligent though and is fighting tooth and nail for her life.

The plot left a little something to be desired, but we are talking zombies here. They’re fun to read about and that’s what this book is. This is a fun, easy to read book for zombie lovers. You do find out how the zombies were created which I think is something! Most authors shy away from all of that information. But Kirsty jumped right into it and it works. And although this is full of some horrific events, it’s hilarious! I kept LOL’ing. Seriously, how do you do that with a horror? I don’t know, but I like it!

It definitely ends on a cliff hanger. One of those scary movie versions where you know exactly what is going to happen  next. But honestly? I loved the ending. I miss endings like this!! And it really left me frothing at the mouth for book two, Unfed.

  1. You and I differ. I can stand cliff hanngers, unless it ends a chapter and I can read on.

    1. Yeah, this cliff hanger was intense. But it was the way that it ended that I loved so much! I really have missed great endings like these. But yes, definitely a cliff hanger.

  2. I love this. It was funny and sorta scary at the same time. 🙂 Great review.
