Book Challenges 2012

Ok, so I’m joining a few challenges this year. My most fabulous will be to read 150 books in the year 2012! Started already! 100 book reviews in 2012

May 28 to August 21st Ohhh! A SECOND summer reading challenge! I feel like I’m doing so well on the first that I decided to join in on this one as well!

A Novel Challenge

GOAL: Commit to completing 8 titles that you have never read before! (10 for a bonus.)

CRITERIA: Choose any title in the following categories:

  • Patient Zero by Jonathan Maberry — A book in an unfamiliar genre [Read outside your comfort zone!]
  • Untamed by P.C. Cast — A book that is part of a series
  • 50 Shades of Grey — A book that your friend or wider society has been raving about!
  • Night Play by Sherrilyn Kenyon — A book that ‘could’ [This category is open to your interpretation*]
  • A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess — A book from the NY Times’ 100 Best Novels List.
  • Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll — A book that reminds you of your childhood.
  • A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway– A banned or contested book, OR a book that lied to us*
  • City of Bones by Cassandra Clare — A book you judged by the cover. [For whatever reason, the cover attracted you.]

  • Blackout by Mira Grant — Bonus: Free choice!

Start date: May 28
End date: August 31

*Fulfill the categories in any order

All Year / 2012: To help me on my way to 150, I’m going to join the challenges set forth by Pages of Forbidden Love, Darlene’s Book Nook, Book Chick City, and The Book Vixen which is to reread the fabulous Twilight series, read the fabulous series about Sookie Stackhouse, the A to Z challenge and for Book Chick City, read 24 or 48 horror & urban fantasy novels and the best of all, to outdo your 2011 reading. Book Chick City also has a year long challenge for zombie books! HORROR, ZOMBIES AND VAMPIRES! Does it get any better? I am looking very forward to the Breaking Dawn Part 2 so this will also give me a reason to read the entire series again! Like I needed a reason, and here I have TWO! The new season for True Blood starts June 10, the night I will be glued to the television instead of reading! I’m going to try to shoot for the 48 challenge for the year! This will get me well on my way to my 150 total which will outdo my 2011 by about 100 books!

2012: Found yet another all year challenge! The Read YOUR Name Challenge. So, since Nova Reylin is my fabulous alter ego, I’ll go with that!

***Still kinda working on this list***

  • Night Play by Sherrilyn Kenyon
  • One Silent Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon
  • Voyage to Venus by C. S. Lewis
  • Alice in wonderland by Lewis Carroll
  • Restorer by Amanda Stevenes
  • Emma by Jane Austen
  • Your Heart belongs to me by Dean Koontz
  • Life, the Universe and Everything by Douglas Adams
  • Iliad by Homer
  • Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

The zombie challenge has four stages:

  • One Chomp: Read 6 Zombie books in 2012
  • Two Chomps: Read 12 Zombie books in 2012
  • Three Chomps: Read 18 Zombie books in 2012
  • Four Chomps: Read 24 Zombie books in 2012

2012 Outdo Yourself Reading Challenge

For the Sookie Stackhouse challenge the books must be read in order:

  1. Dead Until Dark (Book #1)
  2. Living Dead in Dallas (Book #2)
  3. Club Dead (Book #3)
  4. Dead to the World (Book #4)
  5. Dead as a Doornail (Book #5)
  6. Definitely Dead (Book #6)
  7. All Together Dead (Book #7)
  8. From Dead to Worse (Book #8)
  9. Dead and Gone (Book #9)
  10. Dead in the Family (Book #10)
  11. Dead Reckoning (Book #11)
  12. Deadlocked (Book #12) – expected publication: May 1, 2012

I absolutely LOVE Christine Feehan but with all that I’m reading this year I thought I may have to put her on the back burner. But then I found this challenge! 😉

The books in the Sea Haven Reading Challenge are comprised of two different series: the Drake Sisters and the Sisters of the Heart. Since the Sisters of the Heart series appears to be a spin-off of the Drake Sisters series, it would probably be best to start with that one first.
The Sea Haven novels by Christine Feehan are:

  1. Magic in the Wind (Drake Sisters, Book #1)
  2. The Twilight Before Christmas (Drake Sisters, Book #2)
  3. Oceans of Fire (Drake Sisters, Book #3)
  4. Dangerous Tides (Drake Sisters, Book #4)
  5. Safe Harbor (Drake Sisters, Book #5)
  6. Turbulent Sea (Drake Sisters, Book #6)
  7. Hidden Currents (Drake Sisters, Book #7)
  8. Water Bound (Sisters of the Heart, Book #1)
  9. Spirit Bound (Sisters of the Heart, Book #2)

Now, this one will be interesting! I have yet to go through the books that I have already read so I will have to get this updated soon but I plan on adding the books for the year prior to reading and then just change when I need to. And this nifty challenge will add another 26 books to my goal of 150 in 2012!

Finished:

DONE! July 16-22 Summer RaT

Since this will correspond with my second Summer Challenge, I will push to get at least 3 if not 4 of those books read during that week!

DONE! May 1 to Sept 1 Another interesting challenge! To view official rules and the specifics of the challenge, please clicky the button…

Semi-Charmed Summer Book Challenge
For this very interesting challenge I am setting my books up prior to! Actually this is fantastic because I set my goal to work on my list of 150 books anyway so this will set me up with another 11 books finished for one challenge! Fantastic! All books MUST be books that have not been read before! Here’s what I have so far:

**Subject to change, updates on this summer challenge can be found in Books can be Dangerous.**

April 21, 2012: DONE!

I’m super excited and hope to be apart of the Dewey’s 24 hour Read-a-thon!  Link is for the FAQ page but you can find all sorts of great information at the website, including of course HOW to sign up!

I have signed up as a cheerleader and will not only be reading for the 24 hour period on April 21st but will be blogging and helping other bloggers to not only stay awake but continue having fun through the entire 24 hours!

April 23 to April 29 DONE! Ahhh, now this is going to get my mouth watering! Not only a week long readathon, but a HORROR readathon! Now this is right up my alley! I was already working on my Sherrilyn Kenyon but I may have to throw in some Stephen King and Dean Koontz just for this week!

May is for zombies!!! And since I’m an avid zombie lover (or is that hater, I can never figure that out!), I will be glued to this site! Revies, guest posts, giveaways, interviews from zombie authors (not actually zombies, just authors that write about zombies) and more! Check it out!

  1. Welcome to the read-a-thon! I hope you enjoy reading some good horror with us this week.

    1. Thank you so much! This is just an excuse to read horror! But I have to admit I’ve been into paranormal romance, so it’ll be a nice change.

  2. So glad to have you at the Semi-Charmed challenge! I personally LOVE The Lonely Bones; one of my all-time favorite books. Also, I’ve always wanted to read Dante as well; can’t wait to see what you think of it. Only five more days before we can start! (I have a stack of books itching to be read for this challenge….)

    1. I know! These books are staring at me! I actually need to update my list but I’m really excited about this! Can’t wait to see your thoughts on Paradise Lost!! I may have to change my list! 😉
