Book Review: Betrayed House of Night Book 2 by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast

This is definitely a fun read! While I don’t always agree with all of Zoey’s choices I do realize she’s a teenager and going through a LOT more than a normal teenager. Even with some iffy choices this is a great read and I’m excited to see where the series will go next!

What’s happening: In Betrayed House of Night Book 2 by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast we delve deeper into the new life of Zoey Redbird. This story starts off slower than the first but picks up fast enough. Again as the first, the story is a very easy read with Damien’s “vocab” words thrown in.

You can see already that Zoey, even in the short month that we’ve known her has already grown into her mark and the knowledge that Nyx has marked her for something special. But, with the mistakes that Zoey

makes you can tell she is still human in every aspect of the word. She’s also still a teenager and what’s worse her life has been turned upside down. In book two, Betrayed, she is actually getting on her feet, she has been a fledgling vampyre for about a month and has made some friends, mostly those of her roommate Stevie Rae but Zoey finally feels as if she belongs. A first for her. She even has one of the teachers, definitely an adult Vampyre looking her way. Although she is dealing with the accidental drinking of Heath’s blood in Marked, and has a new boyfriend in Erik, the allure of Loren makes her feel tipsy and even when Zoey wants to do what is right she always finds herself doing the opposite. She is also now the new leader of the Dark Daughters and the stress from her boyfriends, school and the chaotic life around them is mounting.

She still remembers what Nyx told her “Darkness does not always equate to evil, just as light does not always

bring good”. Listening to this gift is the best thing she can do, but sadly she doesn’t always listen and where she is led in this book is treacherous. Zoey starts to question even those that seem to lead her in the right direction. Most of which creates more drama for herself. Even Nala, her cat, yells at Zoey for the decisions s

he’s making.

My thoughts:

The end of this book was sad but it just wanted me to pick up book 3, Chosen, even more! I did like Marked better, but getting into the characters and learning each of them was a lot of fun. So, although this book wasn’t AS good, I still think 4/5.

Again, if you’re a Twilight fan, this is a must read. But my recommendation is to not judge Zoey, just cry with her when she makes mistakes, laugh with her when goodness surrounds, and read fast. Hidden, the 10th House of Night book is out Oct. 16, 2012!
