Synopsis:
What if you knew when someone was going to die?
For seventeen-year-old Ember, life is death. With a simple touch, she knows when someone will die. It’s her curse and the reason she secludes herself from the world. The only person who knows her secret is her best friend Raven.
Then she meets Asher Morgan. He’s gorgeous, mysterious, and is the only person Ember can’t sense death from. So when he pushes into her life, she doesn’t mind.
But when unexplained deaths start to haunt her town, Ember starts questioning why she can’t sense Asher’s death and what he may be hiding.
My thoughts:
So, wow… this book is intense. Like no joke intense! It’s an interesting twist on Death Angels and Angels and their war for human souls. The downside of having such an intense book is that it was almost too difficult to read. I was hoping I was at the character arc because honestly if Ember went through anything else or got arrested for the things that were going on, I may have flipped!
Ember is a teenager also and the cops have it out for her. It’s really upsetting! Here’s a girl who is already an outcast and the cops do absolutely nothing to minimize the damage they help create!! It’s insane!
On the up side, it’s a page turner. Seriously. Although I was cringing, I was only upset because Ember is someone that I felt a huge amount of empathy for. I want everything to be ok, even better than ok for her and things just keep getting worse and worse, even the ending is a cliff hanger leaving you wondering if the next book is going to be as intense or if she is going to have any kind of reprieve at all from this sucky life! Seriously!
Don’t get me wrong though, it’s a great book, with lots of ups and downs. I didn’t figure out who the main bad guy was or what was happening or why, even though Jessica Sorensen does give some clues along the way. But as I said above I’m still left with so many questions, lots of questions that I can’t post here due to spoilers but I’ll just say, I can’t wait to get my hands onto book two of this series.
About the author:
Jessica Sorensen lives with her husband and three kids in the snowy mountains of Wyoming, where she spends most of her time reading, writing, and hanging out with her family.
