My Merlin Synopsis:
He was a little older than he was letting on. By a few eons…
In this modern Arthurian, 17 year-old Boston high schooler Arriane, aka Ryan, DuLac just found out the guy she’s been crushing on, hot biker Matt, is a little older than he was letting on. In fact, he is really Merlin—the Merlin, King Arthur’s Merlin, the greatest wizard who ever lived. Frozen in a cave for over fifteen hundred years, he’s woken for a purpose. But Ryan’s not impressed. Tired of being a relationship loser, she’d rather kick his legendary behind.
Sure, the world has been crazy ever since the sword and the stone fell out of the sky like a meteor. But despite gruesome gargoyles, a deadly new world of magic, and the guy driving her crazy, Ryan knows that family is everything. Will Merlin sacrifice hers to save the world? Will she be able to stop him?
My thoughts:
Series review!!! This will be about all three books but I will try very hard not to give spoilers about any!
What an interesting series! And such an easy read too! The last book I read was The Book of Paul which was amazing but intensely heavy (not in a bad way) so I picked this up and was amazed with how fast the story started and flew by! You definitely need to read this series in order. Although you may be able to pick up what is going on in each without the previous it will be much smoother if you read in order. And each goes so fast that you won’t even know you’ve read three books!
And speaking of the reading, the plot is really good. I don’t know a lot about King Arthur but this did seem to at least start from that story but it is a storyline all its own. Totally modern day wizards which I thought lent a really cool atmosphere to our little normal world.
The characters are a lot of fun. I think Ryan is my favorite but I do love a good heroine. She has gone through a lot but doesn’t let life or anything else stand in her way. Even when you think she’s done for she has a strength, sometimes lent to her by the two other main characters, Matt and Vane, but she always finds it within her to fight, no matter what the odds.
The two vying for her love are Matt (THE Merlin) and Vivane. I’m not really sure if I want her with either guy! This reminds me of Sophie’s Turn where both guys could be good for her and who doesn’t like a great bad boy but are either really good for her?!! I have to say I did like how it turned out but it could have gone either way. My poor heart was leaning one way one minute and then turning into a traitor the next. Both have pluses and minues but if you’ve read any of my other reviews on bad boys, you’ll know my personal fav was pretty much always Vane.
And Vane is a great character. I like Merlin and all but he seems so uppity to me, not really in a bad way but he holds so much back from Ryan that he really shouldn’t. He is trying to protect her and over and over again she gets upset with him because of it. And then there’s Vane. You never really know if he’s a bad guy or a good guy. I do know he’s a great character that I absolutely loved!
Overall, this is candy! I really needed this after a very busy week too! Trilogy about the paranormal with lots of romance! Who doesn’t like that?!! Oh and I have to add, Priya does SUCH A great job at ending these books. I had to do that fan your eyes thing and pretend I just got something in my eye when my hubby was looking!
Hello Nova,
Thank you for hosting My Merlin today and an even bigger thank you for taking the time to read the whole series! I’m so glad you got to go through the whole arc of the story! It was a fun ride to write them and I think I cried buckets when it finished 🙂
Priya!!! I seriously kept doing that hand wave to the eyes thing! I really felt connected to Ryan. She’s such a great heroine. Thank you so much this was a fabulous read and so easy which was exactly what I needed!
You’re putting a huge smile on my face 🙂 So glad you liked Ryan. I’m really sad that their story ended but oh, so happy where it did. I’m doing an excited dance that you felt the same way.
Very much so! Can’t wait for your next book 😉
