The Hobbit Read-Along: Chapter Two “Roast Mutton”

I found this chapter to be very funny. A little frightening for a poor hobbit but funny all the same. Wanderlust is fantastic in telling us about this chapter but what I love most is the description of the names. The dwarf names are quite unique and then we have the three trolls:

Can anyone explain to me how John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, that great and masterful wordsmith, could come up with crazy awesome names like Gandalf, Thorin, Smaug, Balin, Dwalin, Fili, Kili, Dori, Nori, Ori, Oin, Gloin, Bifur, Bofur, and Bombur, yet decide to name his trolls William, Bert, and Tom.

William, Bert, and Tom.

HA!!! Honestly I have to admit I was too worried about Bilbo to even notice how simple and ordinary the names were. This chapter is chock full of adventure and Bilbo finds that maybe he did bite of more than he can chew but I don’t think so!

If you have yet to read The Hobbit this has a few spoilers in it but it really is a great read! Enjoy:
