My thoughts:

I have had the pleasure of reading Pavarti K. Tyler’s work before. I have a book review for the Shadow on the Wall which honestly I thought was great. Her writing is fantastic and it didn’t stop being fantastic for Two Moons of Sera.

The world in Two Moons was a bit more fantastical but the writing was still fabulous. It’s nearly lyrical in a way. She pulls you into the story and you start feeling for the characters and what is happening to them before you really even know much about them! Sounds odd but I attribute that to her wonderful writing and great characters.

In this particular story we meet Serafay and I absolutely love her. She’s young but really smart and then she meets Torkek. And once again I was lucky enough to read yet another story with a pup! From the sounds of this pup he’s quite big but all dogs are babies in my eyes. I fell in love with his demeanor and protecting behavior instantly! And although Sera nicknames him Monster, she thinks he’s adorable too.

There are a few other characters like Lace who I think are the most intriguing. Lace has a real bristly way about her but there’s always an underlying reason for that and you do find out more about Lace in the third part. Even with her bristles I really liked her. I think she added a bit of an edge to the story.

This does end on a series cliffhanger. Actually Parvarti does quite well on ending all of these at the perfect part. Right where you want to know more. I’m so glad I jumped into this on the third but I definitely want to know what’s going on in the fourth!

To give you a little taste of the two main characters, Sera and Tor I thought I’d pick a small excerpt but it was hard to pick just one!

The appearance of Tor, covered in scars and scabbed-over scratches, towering over me with intensity, holding a small bird and pointing at its butt, was simply the funniest thing I’d ever seen. When I burst into laughter, Tor growled and dropped the bird to the ground. I couldn’t catch my breath and tears came to my eyes.

“Tor!” I squealed and had to bend over. I laughed harder than I had in years.

He waited, an annoyed grimace on his face, while I attempted to regain composure. But, every time I glanced up at him, I started again. My amusement grew in direct proportion to his aggravation. After a few minutes, he gave up on me and picked up the basket, walking through the oblivious chickens toward the gate.

 

Across his chest spread a map of his history. Scars rose from his skin, light against his dark flesh. When seen together, the marks on his arms paled in comparison, mere scratches against this evidence of injury.

“This one was there when they found me.” Tor pionted to a scar, which ran from one side of his neck, below his Adam’s apple, and across his apposite shoulder.

“How?”

“Whoever did it must have missed their mark since I’m still alive.” He shrugged and lowered his hand to his side. “This is from a bear. It was right after I’d been forced out and didn’t know how to hunt yet.” He raised his arm and turned, showing me his side and the claw marks running along his rib line. His muscled body flowed with ease, the puckered skin of his scars masking his beauty.

“And this,” he motioned to his shoulder, “was from Elgon when I first found him.”

The mountain hound sleeping at my feet didn’t rouse at the sound of his name.

Pavarti K Tyler is an artist, wife, mother and number cruncher. She graduated Smith College in 1999 with a degree in Theatre. After graduation, she moved to New York, where she worked as a Dramaturge, Assistant Director and Production Manager on productions both on and off Broadway.

Later, Pavarti went to work in the finance industry as a freelance accountant for several international law firms. She now operates her own accounting firm in the Washington DC area, where she lives with her husband, two daughters and two terrible dogs. When not preparing taxes, she is busy penning her next novel.
