Once Upon a Read a Thon

I love summer read a thons!

My Once Upon a Read a Thon Progress!

This read a thon from 12:01 AM on July 9 to 11:59 PM on July 11th. Thank you to Pure Imagination, Candace’s Book Blog, and Reading Angel for hosting!

With all the different genres I’ve been reading this year what shall I introduce into this few days? A little bit of everything!

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

All Souls Part 2 is due to be published July 10, 2012. As I have not preordered (SADLY!) I am rereading the fabulous A Discovery of Witches. First chance I get to run to the bookstore, I will be but until that fabulous day rereading I shall do!

Widow for a Year by John Irving

For my book club, meeting is set for July 14th and I’ve only read the first 100 pages! So, I’m a bit behind but it is good so far and I think I will be able to put a dent into those 576 pages in no time! Also, I have heard of John Irving but never read him so this will be another plus for me. Easy read so far too. I am enjoying his writing style.

Soulless by Gail Carriger

Ok, I have to say out of this list I’m super excited about two of them. Neither are actually on any book challenges, although if I can weasel them on I will, but both seem fantastic! I picked up Soulless from B&N yesterday and I must say the first LINE didn’t fail me. And then as I stood there with my husband waiting I read more. Until I was salivating in the middle of the paranormal shelves of the bookstore. Yes, very unlady like! But man, this book is going to be great, I can feel it! I got to page 8 before he dragged me out, but that’s ok it is currently on my TBR bookshelf! YAY!!

Jenny Pox by J.L. Bryan

So, can I admit something a bit naive? I did not realize that I was into dystopian until the other day. I was just browsing genres on another blog and here’s dystopian and I thought to myself, ugh. Why would anyone want to read that? Who knew that I had already read a good eight or so this year alone!? I also have to admit that I hadn’t heard of Jenny Pox although the synopsis is to die for. So I decided what the hay, you only live once and apparently I’m way, WAY into dystopian so yay me right? Well, while I’m admitting things… This will also be my first Eread. I know, I know. I’m just not with the times. But! I found another few books and got them onto my Nook so I am prepared to enjoy it whether I like it or not! But I know I will!

Eufeeling by Frank J. Winslow

A nonfiction spiritual arc from HayHouse, set to publish July 15th, 2012.

A bit different from my normal book reviews but I absolutely love, love, love spiritual books. Funnily as much as I love paranormal romance and dystopian! There’s just something about a good spiritual non fiction that makes you feel like you’re King of the World, or in my case Queen.

I just started reading this one and it is great so far. Easily paced which is fabulously because I notice intense spiritual books should be taken in bite sized pieces. It’s easy enough to power through but I am wanting to let everything sink in before just rushing. Great for the next few days when I need a break from the fluff! As if I would! Look at those fabulous books!!!

  1. John Irving is one of my favorite authors, and Widow For One Year was the first of his books that I read. It’s long, so I hope you’re enjoying it so far.

    1. So far so good! I’m only at page 100ish but it’s really easy to read. I am enjoying his style of writing. Now if it would just stop raining so I could wake up! Coffee is doing absolutely nothing for me today!

  2. Thank you so much for visiting my blog! Love the covers you chose! 🙂 Good luck reaching your goals! It is absolutely gorgeous where I live, and my two little boys are all about the outdoors today…so, hopefully I’ll get some reading done tonight when they go to bed! LOL!

    1. My pleasure! Love it! And I know how you feel, I have three mutts that have been dying to be out all day. One day without rain in a week, how can I say no to their cute faces? LOL

  3. […] In the beginning, there was a Read a Thon! […]

  4. How are you going with this readathon? You’ve listed quite a number of books he he he… I’ve tried to be a bit modest this time around but still am not going to reach it fully but a bit better than last time around 🙂
