If you could travel in a Time Machine would you go back to the past or into the future?
For sure the past! I love history, the feel of place with age and stories behind it. I’ve always been drawn to the mythology and legends from long ago, which probably explains why I wove Irish mythology through my book “Dark Waters”.
If you could invite any 5 people to dinner who would you choose?
Hmm. Five people? In all honesty, I’m not one for those who have “famous” status. A great dinner party would be my three cousins and my two brothers. We would have a riot as they all have a wicked sense of humor, something I absolutely can’t get enough of. Boring maybe to the rest of the world, but to me they family comes first, always.
If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 things would you want with you?
My husband (he’s Mr. Handy), toilet paper (I’m a believer in the small comforts in life) and some sort of musical instrument (I assume I’ll finally have time to learn to play ;p)
What is one book everyone should read?
Oooh, that’s a hard one, there are so many that I think are THE BEST EVER, until I find the next BEST EVER BOOK. At the moment, I would say that it would have to be The Gunslinger series by Stephen King. Really, this is a book/series that I have read and re-read. Not your typical gore, it’s a blend of fantasy, urban fantasy, western and horror. I think that’s one of the books that has influenced my writing the most, at least when it comes to genre bending.
If you were a superhero what would your name be?
Crazy Socks. Please don’t make me explain this, it’s somewhat embarrassing. Let’s just leave it at the point that we understand that there are some people who can’t handle colorful socks, and I love them. It is a subtle kind of power being able to chase people with your feet. ;p
If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
I love the idea of being able to control the elements. Very cool, just call me Crazy Sock Storm LOL
What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Cookies n Cream all the way! Though I was seduced once time by lemon meringue . . . .mmmm. Lemon meringue *drools*
If you could meet one person who has died who would you choose?
I would love to meet some of my great grandparents. I have a theory that the crazy genes in my family are genetic and not just created by my parents. But I need proof to solidify my theory, now for that time machine you mentioned earlier . . . ;p
What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast?
Protein shakes are my staples, but I LOVE a full on waffle, eggs and bacon breakfast. My waistline though does not appreciate those.
Night owl, or early bird?
Depends on the time of year. In the summer I am a total early bird, usually up at 6 or just before. In the winter I am on the night owl schedule. Either way, the writing still gets done!
One food you would never eat?
Balut (don’t know if I’m even spelling it right) It’s when you eat an egg that has a partially formed chick in it. GAG.

Skittles or M&Ms?
Neither, winegums ;p
Any other books in the works? Goals for future projects?
The sequel to “Dark Waters”, “Dark Isle” will be out in June if all continues to go well, then I have the third book in that trilogy set to be released in July. After that I have two standalone full length novels, (both urban fantasy) set to be released. In September is “Priceless” the story of a Tracker who hunts down children kidnapped by supernaturals, and in December “The Chronicles of Sin” follows Toni, a woman who carries Gluttony within her and how she sets out to free herself from her vice.
What inspired you to want to become a writer?
I think it runs in my blood, my mother fed that by encouraging me to read books way beyond my age which only pushed me further into the world of the imagination. So, I guess it’s my mom’s fault.
Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
Anytime I get a 4 or 5 star review, I just feel the flush of knowing that what I’m doing/writing, is making people happy. That is an incredible feeling.
If you could jump in to a book, and live in that world.. which would it be?
Kushiels’ Dart by Jacqueline Carey, without a doubt. Very cool world and if that was a no-no, I would jump into Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series. Both books have such a depth to the world building it feels as though you could easily stumble across them.
What was your favorite book when you were a child/teen?
The Chronicles of Narnia, but of course! What proper writer of fantasy would say anything else?
Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?
Not really, though I was listening to the Transformers Score while I wrote. Love the orchestra, the power of the music really inspired me.
What’s one piece of advice you would give aspiring authors?
Just keep at it, the only way you will fail is if you give up. Don’t worry about hard critiques and one star ratings, all authors get them, in fact, I would warrant that until you get a one star rating, you are still a baby in this business
If you could choose only one time period and place to live, when and where would you live and why?
I like where I am right now. It’s a great and fascinating world that I for one can’t get enough of. Much as I truly love history and all it has to offer, I like it right where I am. Again, boring, I know, but it’s the truth.

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence is therefore not an act, but a habit.” Aristotle
When you were little, what did you want to be when you “grew up”?
A veterinarian for a long time. I was always told that there wasn’t a real job in being a writer, it was what you did for fun or a hobby. Then I grew up and realized that my stories were not only cool ideas, but that with some effort and learning, my writing wasn’t half bad either ;p
If a movie was made about your life, who would you want to play the lead role and why?
Oh Lordy. A chubby Renee Zellwegger. Her roles as “real” woman, some who make ridiculous mistakes and yet somehow come out on top, is like the tag line to my life. LOL.
Can you see yourself in any of your characters?
A few, but I ain’t saying more than that, too incriminating!
What’s the craziest writing idea you’ve had?
ROFL! Well, I did have this vague idea to blend vampires and pirates, but it faded once the laughter from my writing group subsided.
What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?
Dreams are meant to be chased. So chase them and know that you are following the path that God laid out for you.
I love to bake cupcakes. I watched one too many shows on the food network channel and now I am more than a little obsessed with cupcake decorating.
The perfect cheeseburger.
Chocolate, but of course!
What movie and/or book are you looking forward to this year?
I don’t have time for these things any more! LOL. But I am looking forward to Laurel K Hamilton’s new release in the summer, her books are always fun.
What was your favorite children’s book?
Ferdinand, the story of a bull who just wasn’t mean enough for the bull fights until a bee stung him. Very cute.
Several. My hubby calls my Cinderella, not because I’m his princess, but I tend to be an all or nothing kind of gal. If we are working outside, I throw myself into the task, sometimes literally which means I get a lot of dirt on me. So Cinderella came about because I’m often dirty, but clean up well.
How do you react to a bad review?
It’s just a part of the process. If there is constructive words, take them, try to apply them to my writing. That’s all you can do, everyone is entitled to their opinion, you just have to as an author, suck it up and take the good with the bad. If you can’t, you’re probably in the wrong business.
If you were a bird, which one would you be?
Woodpecker. Goes along with the crazy socks I think, driving people nuts by banging on things. ;p
If you were a super hero what would your kryptonite be?
Chocolate! Gah, I’d do anything for it!

If someone wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?
Crazy Socks 101; A guide to the life of an obsessed writer

What is your guilty pleasure?
I love the spa. Oh my, if I could go for a massage and spa day every week, I SO would!
What TV show/movie/book do you watch/read that you’d be embarrassed to admit?

Finish the sentence- one book I wish I had written is….Kushiel’s Dart. When I grow up, I want to write like Jacqueline Carey

Favorite music? Anything with a good beat or meaningful lyrics. I really am all over the board with this which drives my hubby nuts :p
In your wildest dreams, which author would you love to co-author a book with? Brandon Sanderson or Jacqueline Carey. Both are amazing authors, but I think I would probably wet myself if I ever actually got the chance to work with them!
